Certification exam day checklist
Most failed attempts are not about knowledge alone. A booking name that does not match your ID, a webcam check that fails, or a night of panic cramming can cost you the exam. Work through this list in the week before your AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, CompTIA or Kubernetes exam.
One week before
- Take one full-length timed practice exam and note the domains where you scored lowest.
- Spend the rest of the week on those weak domains, not on topics you already know.
- Re-read your exam confirmation email: date, time zone, delivery method and the name on the booking.
- Check that the name on your booking matches your government ID exactly. Fix any mismatch with the exam provider now, not on the day.
- Read the exam vendor's current ID, rescheduling and testing-room rules. They change, so use the official page, not old forum posts.
Online proctored: set up early
- Run the exam vendor's official system check on the same computer, network and room you will use.
- Use a wired connection or sit close to your router. Close VPNs, sync apps, chat apps and anything that can pop up a notification.
- Clear the desk and the wall behind you. Remove extra monitors, notes, phones and smart watches from reach.
- Plan for a quiet room with a door you can close, and tell people at home when the exam runs.
- Have your ID ready and your phone nearby but out of reach, in case the proctor needs to contact you.
Test center: plan the trip
- Look up the test center address, parking or transit, and how long the trip takes at that time of day.
- Plan to arrive early. Check-in takes time, and late arrivals can lose the booking.
- Bring the ID types your exam provider accepts. Personal items usually go in a locker.
The night before
- Do a light review of your summary notes or flashcards only. Do not start a new topic.
- Skip a full mock exam tonight. A bad score the night before hurts more than it helps.
- Lay out your ID, confirmation details and anything else you need.
- Get a full night of sleep. It matters more than one more hour of cramming.
Exam morning and during the exam
- Eat something and drink water. Avoid trying a new caffeine routine on exam day.
- Log in or arrive early so check-in stress does not eat into your focus.
- Read each question to the end. Watch for words like NOT, MOST cost-effective and LEAST operational overhead.
- Eliminate clearly wrong answers first, then pick between the remaining ones.
- Flag questions you are unsure of, answer them with your best guess, and come back if time allows. Do not leave anything blank unless the exam rules say otherwise.
- Check the clock at the halfway point so you know whether to speed up.

- Run the exam vendor's official system check on the same computer and network you will use, clear your desk and room, close other apps, and make sure your ID name matches your booking.

- Consistent passing scores on timed practice exams across every domain are a good signal. You can estimate it with the free exam readiness calculator.

- No. ExamPro Cert Prep is independent study material and is not affiliated with any exam vendor.
