Tips for realistic study timelines

  • Use the official exam guide as your topic list. Hours only help if they cover the domains that are actually tested.
  • Protect practice time: once you know the basics, timed questions teach more than another video pass.
  • If your practice scores are stuck, add review hours before raising weekly totals — more hours on weak topics beats longer days on everything.
  • New to the area? Budget the higher end of the range and plan a buffer week before the exam.
  • Already passing practice tests? Cut new learning and spend remaining weeks on mocks, explanations and light review.

FAQ

How long should I study for a cloud certification?
It depends on the exam level and your background. Many foundational exams take roughly 40–60 hours, associate exams about 80–120 hours, and professional exams about 150–200 hours, then adjusted for experience. Treat these as planning ranges, not guarantees.
How does this study-hours calculator work?
You pick an exam level baseline, multiply by an experience factor (new ×1.3, some related ×1.0, experienced ×0.7), optionally reduce remaining hours from practice-test readiness, then divide by your weekly study hours to get weeks. Optional exam dates are labelled tight, OK or comfortable.
How is this different from the study plan generator?
This page estimates how many total hours and weeks you need. The study plan generator builds a week-by-week calendar from your exam date with learn, practice and review phases.
Do more study hours always mean a higher pass chance?
Not by themselves. Consistent practice questions, reviewing wrong answers and covering every exam domain usually matter more than raw hours. Use practice scores to decide when you are ready to book.
Can I practice for free while I study?
Yes. ExamPro Cert Prep has free no-login practice quizzes, and a free account gives you 50 practice questions and 30 flashcards a day with no card required.
Is ExamPro affiliated with AWS, Microsoft, Google or CompTIA?
No. ExamPro Cert Prep is independent study material and is not affiliated with AWS, Microsoft, Google, CompTIA or any other exam vendor. Always follow the official exam guide.
